Big, powerful hops are a constant thread that runs through all of our beers, giving a strength that is mirrored by the spectacular, glaciated peaks of the Chamonix valley. There’s a gentler side to these mountains though; soft evening light dancing on the ridges and spires, cascading an inviting glow over the mountain range. The warm, clean malts that make the backbone of all our beers are our ‘Alpenglow’, and give the subtle aromas and depth of flavour that underpins our beer range.
Our goal was to create a flagship beer, an anchor point for our brewery and for our beer range, crystallising what our brand means to us, and the style of beers we brew. This was the first beer we conceived on our home-brew kit, and after several years of development, was the first beer born from our Chamonix brewery. A clean bed of pilsner malt, a touch of wheat and oats and then bam: massive whirlpool hop additions and days of dry-hopping result in juicy, tropical aromas floating down the brewery and - after several weeks of conditioning - that aroma and juicy flavour is transferred in to.
The concept for our Pale Ale was simple. We wanted to take the crisp mountain water of the Alps and transform it in to a light, sessionable, easy-drinking beer, whilst still maintaining our hop-forward, big flavour, Big Mountain ethos. A base of pale malt, plus of course our signature wheat and oats, all mashed warm. 3 types of whirlpool hops, dry-hopped for days and conditioned smooth. A complex beer for a simple concept.
